About the Director

Ken Chan is a versatile player in the Hong Kong percussion scene. His knowledge in concert percussion, drumset, marching percussion and latin percussion nourished from his studies in
the Musicians Institute (Los Angeles, USA), under the tuition by jazz-rock master Gary Garbatini, latin drumming master Chuck Silverman, hand technique master Bruce Becker, marching percussion master Chris Rodriquez, marimba master Marc Wooldridge and a number of local percussion masters including Tung Tak-leong, Simon Chui, Choy Lap-tak, Jonathon Yip and Lung Heung-wing. As an orchestral percussionist, he played in the broadway musical Miss Saigon in the Macao International Music Festival, Orquestra de Macau, the Los Angeles SoCal Dream Drum and Bugle Corps and the Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra. He also performed with numerous well-known artists and music groups including the Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus, jazz maestro Howard McCrary, the world famous percussion duo Maraca2 and the Basic Notes Jazz Big Band. Currently, he is running the PercussionSpirit Music Centre for the purpose of promoting percussive music to the public. He is actively playing for the PercussionSpirit Percussion Ensemble, the jazz combo La Petite Jazzy Jam and the Saturday Night Jazz Orchestra.
